Dude Phantom of The Opera is my Fing Favortie movie of all time and I have seen the play. Music of the night is one of my favorite songs ever! I have 3 version of it on my ipod sooo I think I’m entitled to my own opinion!

Yeah, he’s not the right stuff for this kind of Broadway, but look up Colm Wilkinson’s version of Music of the Night. You can find it right here on Youtube. Best version I’ve heard so far, definitely better than Butler.

You have absolutely no clue what would make an awesome Phantom. Please stop listening to or watching any musical theater.

I disagree. David Cook has a rocker voice, so that is his downfall in singing this music. His vocal style contrasts greatly with the role. I think that Rent would be suited for him.

I agree, this is a very difficult song to sing, the singer has to give a full range of emotion. I don’t think David got that.

Oh, I know. Butler can’t match the greats either. However, despite that, I still prefer his version over this one. He didn’t try to sing it like a boy band, at least.

he’s not auditioning for broadway people(although he could based on this) get over it

@Anamegoesrighthere Gerard Butler really sang a harsh version of Phantom…. Didn’t work out at all.

It was “fine” but the person I PERSONALLY think sings this best is Gerard Butler<3 And the actual theatrical “stage” Phantoms are also great.=)
This is, in my opinion, not Broadway but OK…
Not the right song for Cook, bad for the song, bad for him…=/

Way to completely miss the point. This song requires something that he simply doesn’t have. He’s a fine pop singer, but Broadway he aint. The Phantom requires a certain something, even just single numbers like this. It requires real passion, a strong presence, and so much more. Without that, it’s just another guy singing a song, no matter how good his voice may be. Like I said, watch some of the greats and tell me that this was anything remotely close.

okay whatever. elitist phantom phanchicks need to get over themselves. he’s singing to impress America with his unique sound, not to audition for your private viewing of the l33test POTO rendition as seen through your own eyes.

Very true. The Phantom is not in a boy band. He’s not a pop star. You can’t sing him as if that’s the case and even come even remotely close to any Phantom on Broadway, or even Gerard Butler, for that matter.
